Despite the shared custody of Julian, Robin and Paula's relationship had broken down, and they needed to find a way to co-parent better. They went to co-parenting therapy, which helped them communicate better. Co-parenting therapy helped mend their tumultuous relationship, thus being better parents to Julian.
In an interview with Extra TV, Thicke revealed, "Over the last seven years, I’ve been through just about everything a human being can go through… I lost my father. My house burned down. I’ve been divorced. I fell in love…"
He continued, "Well, when we were first going through divorce, there was bickering… and then we used co-parenting couples therapy and that really opened the door for communication in a much better way for us. And our son is thriving, our son Julian…. And nothing makes you prouder as parents when you had some tough times… figured it out, and your son is thriving because of it."
They're In A Good Place Now
Patton and Thicke's relationship has without a doubt improved tremendously. The exes have both moved on with their lives. Robin is engaged to April Love Geary, and the couple has three children together. It's unclear whether Paula is seeing anyone, as she hasn't publicly been linked to anyone romantically in years.

He added, "My marriage to Paula was crumbling. I started using painkillers. It was a melting pot of trouble brewing, and I was so arrogant that I thought I could handle it all."
Working on their relationship seems to have yielded positive results for Julian. Robin shares pictures of his cute family often, in which all four of his kids are ever-present.
"We're co-parenting at our very best, and it shows in Julian's results, Thicke reveals. "He's thriving and has really blossomed this last year. He's so devoted to school. He's the opposite of me: I was the class clown in the back row. He's in the front of class and loves going to school."
