Saturday Night Live goes pro! Opening the sketch comedy show on Jan. 24 was a skit surrounding the recent New England Patriots “Deflate-gate” scandal that has been widely blamed on quarterback Tom Brady. Longtime SNL cast member Taran Killam played the athlete, beanie and all, claiming innocence and stupidity.
“Me? Absolutely not!” Killam replied when a reporter asked him if he deflated the footballs. “Honestly I wasn’t even aware that footballs couldn’t be inflated or deflated. All I know is that a football is a pigskin, so I just assumed that the air in the football is how much air is inside the pig when it died.”
Brady held his own real-life press conference on Thursday, Jan. 22, continuing to claim he did not alter the footballs in his AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts. The match secured the Patriots a spot in the 2015 Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks.

Hosting and performing on SNL was country singer Blake Shelton. Miranda Lambert‘s husband was a crowd pleaser, participating in a Family Feud sketch where he played on a team with his fellow Voice coaches. Killam played Shelton’s good pal Adam Levine, and the two had a romantic rendezvous at the end of the clip.
Prior to the show, the Maroon 5 frontman tweeted, “Make sure you watch @blakeshelton tonight on @nbcsnl! Hopefully he won’t suck!”
