Who Is Steve Kent, Fired Young & Restless, Days Executive?

If the swirling rumors are true, there’s about to be a seismic shift in the way things are done behind the scenes at The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives. Because when it comes to what happens in both Genoa City and Salem, few people have more sway than Steve Kent… even if you don’t really know who he is or what he does.

Kent’s is a name many fans are very familiar with… especially those who’ve been unhappy about the current state of Young & Restless and Days of Our Lives. Why? Because as the Senior Executive Vice President of Programming at Sony Pictures Television, the proverbial buck often stops with him.

Now, however, Soap Opera Digest is reporting that several sources have whispered in their ears that Kent is out. If true, the timing is somewhat ironic, given that he was one of several folks who made speeches during a recent event celebrating Days of Our Lives‘ 15,000th episode.

While most viewers probably don’t even realize that the two soaps are connected, both are produced by Sony.

So far, there’s no word on exactly why Kent was let go or who’ll be his replacement. It does, however, seem to indicate that other changes could be coming down the proverbial pipeline. It’s no secret that there’s been widespread dissatisfaction among viewers of both shows. On top of that, it was under Kent’s eye that last year, Days of Our Lives was rocked by a scandal which saw longtime co-executive producer Albert Allar fired amid rampant accusations of misconduct on the set.

Kent has long been associated with soaps, having worked on shows ranging from Capitol to Santa Barbara. As this is a developing story, we will continue to update it as further information becomes available.
